Christmas Present Card

Christmas Presents, Ribbons and Bows…..is the challenge theme for the month of September at Christmas Cards All Year Round. I took the challenge literally and made my card in the shape of a Christmas present, wrapped in ribbon with a bow!  Shaped cards are easy peasy when you are using your Cricut machine!  All of the shapes on my card were cut with the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge.  My card is a standard size of 4.25 x 5.50.  I wanted the finished card to fit into a standard envelope.  The vast majority of my Cricut projects are cut with Design Studio.  In Design Studio, I open my image and then set the width to 4.25 and the height to 5.5, resulting in my standard size card.

I tweaked my design a little to give it more dimension.  The standard design on the card gives you the present shape and the bow/ribbon layer.  I wanted the present to have the added dimension of the top on the box.  I cut an additional shape out to create my box top.  I inked the edges to give a little bit of a shadow to add depth.  I applied  my box top with pop dots to add more dimension to my finished project.

While most people will tell you to never cut glitter paper with your Cricut, this project was cut completely with my Cricut machine.  My philosophy was, if the machine can cut chipboard, surely it can cut glitter paper.  My designs cut super clean.  My glitter paper is by American Crafts.   I loved the results.  Since the majority seems to vote no on cutting glitter paper.....cut at your own risk.  It is hard to capture the shimmer in photos, but the card really pops in person!

love this card. I have used glitter paper in my cricut and after awhile it gumms up the motor that makes the needle go back and forth. but it looks soooo good with bling!
