February Stamp of the Month Blog Hop

Welcome to the February Stamp of the Month Blog Hop!  We will be featuring February's Stamp of the Month, Home Sweet Home, a set of 4 stamps.  If you have came here from Tamra's Blog, you are on the right path.  The blog hop is a great big circle, you can start here and work your way around.  If you get lost along the way, you can find a complete list of participating consultants here.

My card was created with the new Buzz & Bumble paper line.  This paper line has quickly became one of my favorites.  You will be able to order the great new products from the Spring/Summer catalog starting on February 1, 2013!

The faux wax seals are a new embellishment that coordinates with the kit.  The assortment comes with seals, wooden bees and flowers.  Super cute and super easy to embellish your projects with the self adhesive designs.

My card is based on the sketch this week at Mojo Monday-

It is round or square week.  I went with the square card at 5x5 in size.  I often get asked the sizes of my cards.  The vast majority of my regular cards are made 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, with the majority of my square cards being 5x5 in size.

Country Born

In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I had yet to show you a sneak peek of my FAVORITE new stamp set by Close To My Heart.  Well, here it is!  Country Born.  I love this stamp set.  It has so many great images!  It is a set of ten stamps, featuring five country images and five phrases.  Being an equine enthusiast, I had to ink up the horse stamp first!  My card is based on the sketch challenge this week at The Paper Players.  Here is a look at the original sketch.  I tweaked the sketch a bit to go along with my images.

I chose the colors for my card from the Color Challenge this week at Dynamic Duos.

My piercing was completed with the help of the Close To My Heart ruler which comes with two sets of piercing holes.  My decorative shape was cut with the Cricut Artiste cartridge.

Freshly Made Sketches #71

Linda has created a great sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  I cut out a fancy tag shape from the Cricut Artiste cartridge and paired it with a single rose from the January Stamp of the Month, Happy Valentine's.  We have a great mix of cards this week by the Design Team, be sure and stop by and see the other creations!  Here is a look at the original sketch-

My papers are from the new For Always paper line by Close To My Heart.  This is a new series of black and white patterns that you can easily pair with any color of your choice.  I paired mine with Smokey Plum.  The black and white script on my tag is a pattern paper from the line, which I have overstamped with second generation Smokey Plum ink. I stamped the Smitten stamp, for the fun swirls.  I selectively cut out a single rose and mounted on pop dots for added dimension.  My flower is colored with a blending pen and my ink pads.

I finished out the inside with my customary style...a strip of pattern paper and a simple saying.

All supplies by Close To My Heart, except where noted:

S1301 Happy Valentine's
Sentiments by MFT

Your time is running out to add the January Stamp of the Month to your collection.  The stamp set will no longer be available after January 31, 2013.  Here is a look at the full set.

The trio of roses is a large stamp, I selectively cut out a single rose for my card above.  The whole trio measures about 4" x 3" to give you an idea of the sizing.  While the stamp set comes with Valentine's sentiments, the flowers can easily be used for any occasion.  You can view the details on the stamp set here.

Glittery Flakey Friends!

I am loving the new glitter papers by Close To My Heart, they will be available in six colors in the Spring/Summer Idea Book!  The glitter paper is Cricut compatibility.  Making shaped cards with a glitter base is easy peasy with the Cricut cartridges!  I have combined my card for two challenges.  Heart 2 Heart Challenges is having an All that Glitters challenge this week.  Merry Monday is mixing things up with a Tic Tac Toe Challenge.

I went with the top row, Blue, Dry Embossing and Snow.  I finally managed to get my hands on the Falling Snow Embossing Folder by Sizzix.  I couldn't wait to try it out.  My friend Kim, at Joyful Creations, previously posted about getting different looks with your embossing folders by using the tan embossing mats.  When I first read her post.....I was not sure I was ready to start cutting into my mats.  Fast forward a few months.....and just how many times have I used those mats......NONE!  So what harm could come in cutting one up!  While Kim gives directions in her post....I must have been having a duh! moment...because it took me three tries to get the hang of it!  While I am sure it is just me, I have taken a pic to show you my Cuttlebug sandwhich.

Thanks so much for the inspiration Kim.  I am sure you will be seeing me cutting up more mats in the near future!

NEW Stamp & Paper Storage!

My craft room is in a bit of chaos at the moment with the new upcoming stamp releases.  I keep a separate area in my craft room for new releases and favorite stamps that are used often.  They currently reside on my sewing table.  I decided Mr. Sewing Machine could not play nice and proceeded to evict him from the room!  I also keep my 6x6 paper pads on this table...as they are quickly becoming a growing obsession.  As you can see, I have outgrown the stamp and paper pad storage! (If you look closely, you will be able to see some of the new releases!)  I tried to locate more of the little plastic cubes, but could only find them in colors that would greatly clash with my room.  Close To My Heart came to my rescue!  With the Spring/Summer catalog,we will have a Large Organizer, which is made to hold our acrylic stamps.  As you will soon see, it works great for 6x6 paper pads as well!  Here is a sneak peek...

I LOVE the new organizer.  Having a a lid...keeps out my four legged friends and also makes them stackable.  The handle is recessed, so you could easily stack these on top of each other for multiple cases.  Here is a look at my case filled with the stamp sets and paper that you saw above.

You can also purchase sturdy clear dividers to use in your case, you get 3 dividers and 10 labels in the package.  The extra labels will come in handy if you decided to change your organization at a later date.

I used the dividers for my paper pads to sort them by theme.

Here is the case filled and sitting every so neatly on my sewing table.  I might even have room for Mr. Sewing Machine to come pay a visit.

The new organizer gets a HUGE thumbs up from me!  There are also two other sizes of organizers currently available.  Foam inserts are available for storing craft boxes of embellishments and your blocks. You can view the current organizers here. I will be doing a post in the near future with my embellishment re-organization into the medium organizer.  The large organizer was the perfect solution for my paper pads and new releases. The organizer is advertised to hold 40 stamp sets.  I have 25 stamp sets on just one side.  For me, the case could easily hold 50 stamp sets.  The organizer will retail for $22.95 and will be available 2/1/13. Here is a look at my storage system for my other stamp sets.

I have been using this system for 15 years and it works well for me.  I organize my stamps by theme.  I am an equal opportunity stamper, so I have stamps from various companies.  At some point in the future, I plan on un-mounting the wood mounts to allow for more storage space. Hope you enjoyed the peak into my craft room!

Cozy Cat

I am sneaking in under the wire to enter the CAS Sketch Challenge at The Paper Players.  It is a great sketch that would work well for any card.  I pulled out some NEW stamps and papers to make my card!  This is a little peak at one of the NEW upcoming stamp sets, Cozy Cat.  A super cute A size stamp set.  The set includes the cat shown here and three sayings.  I paper pieced the cat with paper from the upcoming Claire paper line.  I did my best to make a little kitty scene complete with flooring, baseboards and wallpaper!  Here is a look at the original sketch design-

For the details on my Cozy Cat, I stamped the image multiple times on pattern paper and then cut out the various pieces and adhered together.  Close To My Heart is introducing new micro tip scissors  that make fussy cutting a breeze!  They are now my go to pair of scissors.  I plan on getting a spare pair....not sure I can live without them if I were to misplace them!  Here is close up at the paper piecing.

I popped up a few layers for added dimension.  A little bling on the collar finishes off the card!

Freshly Made Sketches #70

Rita has a fun versatile sketch for us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!  I decided to go with a boy themed birthday card.  I love the fun images on the upcoming Fast and Furious stamp set. Perfect for little boy cards and scrapbooks!  I am sure they would work for big boys too!  I love this sketch and am sure it will become a go to sketch in the future!

I did a little fussy cutting with my card, added brads to the wheels and popped it up with foam tape for dimension.  I could not decide if I wanted to stamp my sentiment in Lagoon or Outdoor Denim ink....so I chose both!  I inked my stamp in the lighter Lagoon ink and then rolled the edges in Outdoor Denim ink.  I think the end result works great with the pattern papers.

I added a birthday sentiment and a strip of pattern paper to the inside of the card to finish it off.
