Sweet Baby Elephant

The New Close To My Heart Annual Inspiration Catalog/Idea Book goes live on August 1, 2017.   The catalog is filled with tons of great new products.  While flipping through the pages...this sweet little elephant jumped out at me....I knew I had to have him!  While the set is geared towards baby...I think he makes a sweet stand in for birthdays as well!  He is too cute....I see him making an appearance in all sorts of projects to come!  You can purchase the set with or without matching thin cut dies as well.  This set would be awesome for those of you completing baby albums...here is a peek at the full set-

A little about my card....it was created with a couple of different techniques.  For starters the elephant was colored with Prismacolor pencils and then blended with Gamsol.  I don't think I will ever be a master artist.....but Gamsol is my friend when it comes to smooth blending.  You can usually find it in the fine arts section of your craft store...I always seem to locate it on a bottom shelf if that helps you in your journey.  My sentiment was inked with Pacifica and Lagoon inks.  I ink up my stamp in the lightest color first and then roll my stamp into the darker color.  It always adds a little bit more to your project than just one ink color.  My card is all about dimension...everything is popped up with foam dots and real twine is tied around the balloons.

My card is based on the MFT Color Challenge this week.  While I do not have any MFT goodies on this card...I love their stamps and dies and would love the chance to win MFT goodies for my stash!

CAS Christmas Card

I am back again with another CAS card created with the Bright All Night Stamp set.  This stamp is about 2 3/4" square.  It is part of the Quick Cards series by Close To My Heart.  And it does just as it's name implies....lets you make cards quickly.  This is one of my favorite stamps and I have been known to stamp it in a rainbow of colors.  For this card, I changed up the sentiments a little, by adding a Merry Christmas banner over the top of the Bright All Night sentiment.  You could easily mask off any of the sentiments if you just wanted a snow scene.  It is a great versatile stamp!  This stamp was previously retired...but brought back for the Stampaganza Sale...Buy 2, Get 1 Free on stamp sets in July.  The sale ends on 7/31/17 and the set will be retired again! Here is a look at the the stamp set-

While I like the Merry and Bright all night sentiment....I also like to change up my cards. By stamping a sentiment onto a banner diecut, I easily changed up the card.  Speaking of sentiments, there is a great set of sentiments brought back for Stampaganza as well...Say It All, perfect for all occasions!

Sneak Peek of Bashful...

A mix of old and new.....Paper Bird & Bashful. It's possible you might have missed the re-release of Paper Bird.    Paper Bird was brought back just for Stampaganza, the Buy 2, Get 1 Free Stamp Sale.  The sale ends on July 31....and Paper Bird will go back into retirement.  Bashful is the new color of the year and will be released on 8/1/17.

Here is a look at all of the images included with Paper Bird-
https://rockymtnpapercrafts.closetomyheart.com/retail/product.aspx?sku=C1613
While I love the sentiments included with the set...I am way behind on Thank you cards....so I went with an upcoming Thank You stamp for my sentiment.  The Thank You actually comes preformed in a curve.  The beauty of acrylic stamps is you can easily change their shape on your acrylic block or stamping platform.  You can make a straight sentiment curved or the reverse as I have done here.

My card is based on the sketch challenge this week at Your Next Stamp. While I have yet to add any of YNS designs to my collection, there are several on my wish list!

Design Tip-My bird image is actually a couple of layers for added dimension. I first stamped my bird on my white panel with Cocoa ink.  I then stamped the image again on Bashful cardstock and fussy cut the image out.  I then stamped just the wing part again on Bashful and added to my layers.  I grounded my bird by adding some burlap twine for added texture.

Exotic Flower Emboss Resist

I am back with another throwback stamp, Exotic Flower....brought back just for Stampaganza! Close To My Heart has brought back 27 retired stamp sets to be included in the Stampaganza, Buy 2, Get 1 Free Stamp Sale.  These sets are only available until July 31! The Exotic Flower set is perfect for backgrounds and can easily stand alone.  The stamp is 4" x 4" square.  I created this card with a simple emboss resist.  I stamped my image with Versamark ink and then clear embossed.  Before applying ink, I masked off my image with post it notes to give me a clean line on my finished image.  I then sponged on Raspberry, Lemon and Fern inks for the Color Throwdown Challenge-

I had originally planned to use my Distress Oxides...but found I did not have a really bright yellow.  I love the bright results that I achieved with my regular dye ink pads!  Here is a close up view of the Exotic Flower Stamp-

Bright All Night...

Bright all Night is one of my favorite Christmas stamps and I was excited to see Close To My Heart bring it back for the July Stampaganza Special.  For the month of July, stamp sets are Buy 2, Get 1 Free.  You can easily mass produce Christmas cards in a variety of colors with this set.

https://rockymtnpapercrafts.closetomyheart.com/retail/product.aspx?sku=A1148
My card is based on the sketch challenge this week at The Paper Players.

Design Tip: Need perfectly matched ribbon for your projects?  I keep a large roll of plain white organza ribbon for color matching.  When I do not have ribbon to match a project...I make my own.  You can easily color organza ribbon with your dye ink pads or alcohol markers.  The colors will be a perfect match.  The only draw back is a little drying time is required.  I tend to heat set mine with a hair dryer.  My heat gun gets hotter than my ribbon can handle.

Distress Oxide Background

I found a little crafting time to play with my new distress oxide inks.  I needed a masculine birthday card and felt leather and distress oxides fit the bill.  My card is based on the sketch challenge this week at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I created my top panel by blending salty ocean and peacock feathers inks, then distressed with Walnut Stain.  I then sprayed an oldie by goodie wood mounted background stamp with water and stamped onto my distress oxide panel.  I let the stamp sit in place for a bit.  I think the weight of the wood mount is what gave me such a great impression on my background.  I used regular cardstock for my panel, no watercolor paper required.  To continue with my background, I inked my stamp up again with walnut ink and stamped onto my pacifica cardstock.  I used a strip of suede leather for my border and die cut banners to follow the sketch.

A Summer Hello...

This is the negative image from my card shown yesterday.  My card is inked with Poppy and Lemon inks for a bright summer feel.  You can easily recreate the image by using any dye inks that you have on hand.  Simply apply your dye ink direct to your stamping block, spritz with water and stamp directly onto your paper.  I used regular cardstock and regular dye inks....no special products needed.  I chose to die cut my panel, but you could easily stamp images as well.

Prickly Pear Hello

I am back with another die cut from my watercolor block stamping marathon!  I love how you can get two focal points out of one image by using the positive and the negative from your die.  To create this image, I inked up a clear acrylic block with Poppy and Lemon ink.  I then spritzed the block with water and stamped directly onto paper with the inked block.  After the ink dried, I then die cut my image.  Over the next few days, you will see how I have utilized the positive and the negative images.  I die cut an additional hello out of thin foam and mounted my inked image to it for more dimension.  I used Liquid Glass to secure the two together.  My image coordinates perfectly with the Prickly Pear papers that are featured this month at Close To My Heart.

Block Watercolor Stamping

I was in need of some notecards.....and was recently inspired by the Block Watercolor Stamping designs by Jennifer McGuire.  If you have yet to create some of these gorgeous backgrounds for fear of not having the "right" supplies....I suggest you give it a go with the items you currently have in your craft room.  I created this card with dye inks and cardstock from Close To My Heart.  No distress inks or watercolor paper required.

I inked up an acrylic block with Sapphire and Fern Inks.  I first inked the lighter color and then added the darker color.  While I do not actually mix the colors on the block....I feel you are better safe than sorry by inking the lighter color first.  After inking up my block, I then spritzed with water and stamped the block directly onto my paper.  My stamping surface was a little uneven, so I added more water to my block and stamped again.  I love how it gave the interesting color combos shown above.  To me, the card has such a beachy summery feel to it!

I set my card front aside to dry and continuing on with various other color choices..., which I am sure will be making an appearance later in the week! You could also use a heat gun to dry your images if time is of the essence.  I found mine dried quickly without having to use a heat gun.  Once my card fronts were dry, I then centered a word die on top and ran through my Big Shot.  Now, I will have two cards from one great background.  While I have used the negative here, the positive images are in a pile just begging to be used on future cards.

The cards were super fun to create and came together quickly.  Clean up is a breeze as well, just spritz your block with more water and wipe clean.

Freshly Made Sketches #295

It is never to early to get started on your holiday cards!  With the heat we are currently having, I was content to be in my craft room playing with snowflakes!  My card is based on the sketch challenge this week at Freshly Made Sketches-

If you prefer to mass produce your holiday cards, this would be a great sketch to work with.  Most of my cards are one of a kind.  This one has some added details that are not so clear in the pic.  I die cut my snowflake out of white cardstock, covered in Versamark ink and then white embossed.  I then repeated twice more.  In the end I had a super smooth, glossy snowflake.
