Heard It's Been Ruff...

This card did not turn out as I envisioned.....don't you hate it when that happens???  I could have redone it, but decided that it was worthy of sending....vs not sending.  I have thought of sending this card for a couple of weeks...so decided today was the day to get ink on paper and get it in the mail! I stamped my images with black pigment ink and clear embossed.  I then colored my image with Prismacolor pencils.

This could easily turn into a controversial post....but the basis behind my card really hit a nerve. A local vet is being criticized by the media for failing to euthanize a dog.  A boxer was brought to her to be euthanized because the family could no longer afford her care.  The vet offered them other options which they refused.  Fast forward six months and the family decides to get another dog.  They just so happen to find "their" dog at a rescue.  They called the media because they paid to have their dog euthanized and obviously the dog was not.  In the end, the family gets their dog back.  I feel the vet became a vet to save lives...not to put animals down because the owner can no longer afford them.  There are so many other options.  I am in shock that they want legal action taken against the vet.  If it were not for the vet's caring actions....they would not have had the option of reclaiming their dog.   Sadly, I don't feel they should have been able to reclaim the dog......really makes you wonder about the quality of life the dog will receive.  Two sides to every story...but I side with the vet on this one.  Shame on the media and the dog's owners.  I sincerely hope the vet is not sanctioned and can go on to continue to save lives.  And before anyone says, I have not been in their shoes.....I have taken animals to the vet and requested they be euthanized.  The surgeries they would have required were well more than I could afford to pay at that time in my life.....the vet did offer options and my animals either received alternate treatment or were taken in by a rescue that did have the funds for the required surgeries.  Not to mention if you had to take a member of your family to be euthanized, you would think you would stay with them until the very end...not just drop them off.  I am sorry, to me that speaks volumes.

I don't personally know any of the parties.....just felt the need to send a card in support of the veterinarian.  I have not posted a link to the original news story, as it appears to have been removed.  Since the original story has been removed, I have chosen not to list actual names in my "rant". Here is a look at the inside of the card.

This is a lovely card Allisa and I have read all through your blog post. It is sad how someone who can do so much to save animals is now criticised for letting the dog live. It is clear that you weren't too happy with this card but I think it's very sweet and a lovely 'thinking of you' card - perfect for our All Creatures Great and Small theme, thank you for sharing it with us at Penny Black and More, Leanne DT x

I love your card and the reason behind it. The story is a sad one, though. I hope the law sides with the vet on this one.

Hi, Allisa. I believe this is my first-ever visit to your blog. Such a treat to view sweetness, sincerity, and a gentle risking of heart all in a single post. So glad this was my introduction to you.

Allisa, 90% of my cards turn out NOTHING like I originally envisioned them, but I'm find it increasingly enjoyable to see how my heart and hands work together. Most of my designs result from "hiding mistakes" as I constantly drop things or crumple things, so it is one boo-boo after another requiring cover up of one sort or another. So glad you mailed this adorable card because I LOVE IT! Who would not enjoy receiving such sweetness with a smile?

In addition, after reading your story, I thought your rendiering of the card was a perfectly kind way of supporting the vet. We all need encouragement at one time or another. I have learned to not jump to conclusions or judge others because I don't know what's right for another person, but I am grateful that this vet was able to save a healthy animal, and that the family ended up being reunited with their fur child. But I am terribly bewildered that they would respond with a lawsuit, rather than sincere humility and gratitude. Still - people respond inappropriately for a number of reasons - sometimes embarrassment, anger, self-righteousness (or seemingly so) when they don't know how to express appreciation, or admit they may have been "wrong".

Thanks for educating my about unfortunate "quirks" of behavior. I would never have thought something like this could transpire - because of my naivete.

Oh - I forgot why I came to begin with! So glad I got to see your critter project showcased at the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Challenge. Thanks for joining us, and we hope to see more of your pretty creations in the future. Please check back to see if you are a winner. Sending you wishes for a wonderful day!
Smiles,

So in love with this. What a fabulous story you have and I enjoyed reading it very much. I think the vet made the right decision... no animal should have to suffer an end of life because the owner cannot afford its care... there is always someone out there who has a loving home available. Thank you so so much for joining in with our challenge, I feel blessed you found us and we can see your superb work. Thank you for joining us at Crafty Animals. Hugs Traci DT xx
