Freshly Made Sketches #379

My fluffy cat is back for the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches! I love cats of all types....but have a fondness for soft, fluffy kitties, with one exception!  My kitties seem to have read the calendar and actually believe the first day of spring is near.  As a result, I have kitties shedding everywhere!  When it comes to shedding time, fluffy kitties are the worst!  I am up to vacuuming a couple of times a day and there is no end in sight for the kitty hair.  I seriously need a Roomba to work full time! Here is a look at the original sketch design-

I kept my card on the clean and simple side.  My camera lighting does not appreciate the different materials on my card, but I can assure you in person, they all match!  Did you know you can color suede with your alcohol based markers? My pink suede bow was not the exact shade that I wanted....Copic marker to the rescue, a few swipes and it matched perfectly...regardless of what the camera says! I have used Copics to color bling, ribbon, brads, embossing etc.  They are truly a versatile product!

Mojo Sketch #511

One of my goals this year, is to mail more cards.  We all love to receive cards in the mail and a handmade card brightens everyone's day.  I know we often think of sending cards for special occasions, but it is the non-conventional ones that are the most surprising.  I honestly do not celebrate St. Patrick's Day...but decided it would be a good day to send a little something in the mail. I created my card based on the sketch challenge at Mojo Monday. I have always been a huge fan of Julee's layered sketches!

My four leaf clover was created with the super cute stitched heart dies by Close To My Heart. I cut a total of eight hearts.  I adhered four hearts directly to my circle shape.  I then scored the remaining four hearts down the middle and only applied adhesive to the center of the hearts.  After adhering to the flat hearts, I raised the sides of the hearts to give the clover a 3-D effect. Since the hearts did not line up perfectly in the center, I colored a gem with a Copic Marker to match my clover and placed in the center. My stem is cute from an oval stitched die. Super cute and super easy to make!

My sentiments is actually from this month's Love Blossoms special. I love the large font and you can create many sentiments out of the words that are included.  I took the liberty of cutting apart one of the sentiments to make a custom saying for my card.  Don't fear cutting your stamps, you can always slide them back together on a clear block.  Cutting sentiments apart gives you more freedom in your placement and more mileage out of the stamp set.  Here is the original stamp set-

You Are So Wonderful

The Paper Players is having a Colors of the Rainbow Challenge this week.  As soon as I saw the challenge released, I knew I had the perfect paper for it! The I Heart Us paper packet has some gorgeous papers with all the colors of the rainbow!  While looking through the papers, I happened across the sheet of various images that are meant to work well for the Picture My Life Albums....the You are so Wonderful to me image was PERFECT for a card!  I really felt the card would be more fitting if it only said You are so Wonderful.....so I got a little creative about covering up part of the sentiment.  I inked up some butterflies from the upcoming April Stamp of the Month and strategically placed them on my card.  To add some interest, I inked up my larger butterfly in Thistle ink first and then rolled the edges into black ink.  I then layered the butterfly to give it movement on the card.  I love the end result and it resulted in a quick and easy colorful card.  This card is sure to brighten someone's day!  Here is a look at the complete paper pack-

Freshly Made Sketches #378

I spent a little time coloring with my favorite stamp set of the moment, Budding Peony.  I changed things up a little and went with purple as my color scheme.  I figured you had seen enough of my pinks and mint!  My card is based on the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches-

My card ended up taking a direction of it's own.  I promise that rectangle strip is under my peonies!  I had planned on using the strip more as a flower box. It still serves the purpose, my flowers just happen to be in full bloom over the top of it! I layered the flowers to give added dimension.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #306

I am a huge fan of burlap....it is my go to accessory for masculine cards.  I love the added texture and it easily replaces the more feminine ribbon. My card is based on the sketch challenge at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

I am still experimenting with the Prima watercolor pencils.  Watercolor is really a stretch for me.  I really like everything neat and tidy...while I love the free flowing look of watercolor...the struggle is real! More practice to come.

CAS(E) this Sketch #311

I was in need of a few masculine birthday cards, with time being of the essence!  It seems I never have enough male cards made up ahead of time.  The sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch was perfect for a quick card.

In my neck of the woods, wildlife stamps are always a good choice for masculine cards. The elk image is from one of my favorite Close To My Heart stamp sets, Nature's Wish.  This set was retired years ago, but is still my go to set!  My image is colored with Prima Watercolor pencils.  The pencils were totally an impulse purchase on a Buy/Sell site.  The jury is still out on whether I love them or not.  But, I at least put them to use within days of receiving them!

Freshly Made Sketches #377

Freshly Made Sketches has a really fun sketch this week!  I have ran numerous ideas through my head on this one....finally settling on the Love Blossoms stamp set!  I really felt this peony image just about fit the sketch totally on it's on.  I did add in a stitched square of vellum to finish out the elements and ground my thanks sentiment. Here is a look at the original sketch design, and if you hurry you can still play along-

My Love Blossoms stamped image is from the current Love Blossom special, which is only available until the end of March.  The special is based on a card kit, but you can also purchase just the stamp set.  This is a super versatile set, just look at these sentiments-

While the stamp set is designed for a soft watercolor look, I went the opposite direction with a bold Raspberry Pink peony colored with Copics.  Have you tried the new Intense Black ink by Close To My Heart?  This is my new favorite black.  You can do just about everything with it....copics, pencils with gamsol, even watercolors!  It is truly an intense black.  I was previously always a Tuxedo Black Memento fan...but Intense Black has won me over!

My big splash of color is perfect for the Spring Fever Challenge over at The Paper Players!  But, who am I kidding.....I still have months of winter to go!  The only spring flowers I will be seeing is in my craft room...as I am still buried in snow with more snow to come!

Design Tip: I cut my "thanks" die in black foam and black cardstock.  I layered the images together to give it more depth and make it stand out from the bold flowers. Thin Cut dies cut through foam easily!  You could just use the foam image, but I prefer the cardstock texture.

Crazy for CAS...

I can't help myself...I just love the new Mint color! I did manage to change it up and go back to my fuzzy kitty instead of more flowers!  I paired the Mint with Pewter.  Did you know that the Close To My Heart cardstock is now two toned?  My card features the lighter shade of Pewter with the small strips being the darker shade.  The coordinating shades are a great way to get more mileage out of your cardstock without having to stock more colors. My card is based on the sketch challenge at Crazy for CAS.

I love that the sketch gave me the opportunity to add in a few more layers while keeping it CAS. Considering my kitty is on the fluffy side, I have also entered my card in the Addicted to CAS Fluffy Challenge!

And lastly I have entered my card in the Love It Challenge at Little Red Wagon, because I totally am in love with Mint!

Freshly Made Sketches #376

In case you missed my post yesterday....it seems I have a new favorite color...Mint! I just could not put it away yet!  My gingham scraps begged to be put on a card..and were the perfect fit for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge!  I basically used the same elements as yesterday's card with a little more detail.  Even though my elements are the same, it is a totally different look! Here is the original sketch design-

I think I have created more floral cards this year than ever before.  The Budding Peony stamp set is my absolute favorite set out of the current catalog.  Sadly, the coordinating Thin Cuts have sold out.  The stamp set is still available to order.  The stamped images could easily be cut with your SNC or fussy cut away!

I added in more shading to my peony and few more strands of silver thread.  I hope to add in some more colors to my Copic Collection soon.  I seem to have some serious gaps in the pastel colors!

Mojo Monday #509 Sketch Challenge

I have had big crafty plans.....all week long!  I had anticipated that I would be posting this card on Monday, as in last Monday....not sneaking it in on Sunday night just before the challenge closes!  Sadly, that was not the case.  Living in the land of negative temps, my water pipes decided they had, had enough!  No polar vortex here, we live day to day in negative temps.  I think the high winds finally got me.  While the pipes freezing is bad enough....you guessed it...they broke as well!  The highlight of this journey is, no water made it to my craft room.  The low would be.....a large portion of the house was subject to water damage! I finally decided to take a break and disappear to the craft room....oh so peaceful! I was glad to see that I still had some time to get in on the Mojo Monday challenge over at Poetic Artistry. By the time you read this, I am sure this challenge will be closed...but a new one will be opening in just a few short hours!

I just received my Mix In paper packet from Close To My Heart.  While flipping through the papers, I feel in love with Mint!  Who knew....I am really not a pastel person....but Mint, it really drew me in!  I am still loving my Budding Peony stamp set, as it has never left my desk and a Mint themed card was born.  Instead of my usual bright colors, I decided to pair Mint and Peach.  Why Peach, because the ink pad was right next to Mint and they looked lovely together! The Mix In paper pack is full of fun versatile patterns!  If you have yet to check it out, you should give it a closer look.

My original plan was to watercolor with Mint and Peach.  This did not goes as planned....while they are lovely pastels...adding water makes them way too light for my liking.  I pulled out my Copic color chart and decided on a few close matches to color my peony image.

A tiny bit of bling and silver thread finished off my card!
